The War is Won

“Your love surrounds me when my thoughts wage war”

Prince of Peace by Hillsong

Our flesh will always tend to adopt the world’s desires. It will adopt the thought processes, definitions of success, opinions of worthiness, scales of sufficiency. The world will always be a battle of endless striving, and adequacy will be an intangible and increasingly distant ideal.

The One who created our lives, planted His salvation in our hearts from before the beginning of time, is the only One who can satisfy our souls’ deepest desires. He credits our hearts with grace upon grace in the currency of righteousness and a new forever. When we choose Him, and choose to accept His salvation, the desires of the flesh sink into irrelevance because we have something better. We have what is good, trustworthy, true and eternal. We have the promise and sealed salvation of our precious Savior.

When our thoughts are filled with the lies, intangible ideals and endless striving fueled by the flesh’s desire, the matchless love of God surrounds us. If it’s a war the enemy wants, it’s a war He’s going to get. But the jokes on Him because the war is won. We’ve got Heaven’s armies and the power of the One who put death and darkness to shame on our side. He has overcome. His love conquers all—even the intricacies of the most convincing and deeply rooted lies that we have familiarized as thoughts we believe everyday. His love disarms all lies and causes chains to shatter and darkness to fall on its knees in surrender.

The war is won. Jesus won and credits His victory as our own.
