Reason to sing

Over the last few months I’ve found myself in a major bird phase. I just love hearing birds. At first, I thought I was just missing my time studying abroad in New Zealand and the constant beauty of hearing tui birds sing. But then I realized the reason I’ve come to love hearing birds is because they always sing. Even in the rain, even on the cloudy days, even when seasons change, even when they're alone, even when life just seems dim. It's easy to sing when the sun is shining, but a true song is sung when there seems to be no reason for it. Birds always find a reason to sing. And so should we. There is always a reason to sing. Most of the time we sing because we have a reason to, but often times it takes singing to find your reason. A heart of gratitude always frames our reason to sing. Even if you have to start with humming...humming birds sing too. Just begin. “He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the LORD.” Psalm 40:3 “I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. May my meditation be pleasing to him, as I rejoice in the Lord. But may sinners vanish from the earth and the wicked be no more. Praise the Lord, my soul.” Psalm 104:33-35 “Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.” Colossians 3:16 "For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light." Psalm 36:9 When you can’t seem to find a reason to sing, start by listening. You’ll hear the birds and many around you singing, even on the rainy days. Maybe their song will spark your hum. You’ll find your reason once you begin.
