One degree
The power of one degree.
If a pilot was taking a flight from Chicago to Dallas, and was one degree off their course, a slight course adjustment could probably fix the error. They would likely still end up in the same vicinity.
However, if the flight was going from Chicago to Hong Kong, that one degree would have an enormous impact. I would imagine they would end up in an entirely different country far from where they intended to be.
If just one degree can make such a big difference, imagine how much of a difference anymore could make?
Are we just one degree from who God created us to be? Or many more? Are we aligned with the path He has set before us, or have we wandered a bit off? ...Maybe on our way to create a new trail at our feet.
Between now and next week, that one degree probably would not be a big deal. We would most likely stay near the same path, perhaps a gradual increase in degrees of deviation but not too much.
But between now and five years, that one degree will totally change the course of our lives and who we have become and are becoming. We will find ourselves on a path we have trampled down ourselves, in a place we never intended to be. It all began by being just one degree off.
How many degrees off are you from who God created you to be? What is causing it? How will it change who you are becoming rather than who God created you to be? Where will you find yourself down the road?
"But now let me show you a way of life that is best of all."
1 Corinthians 12:31
"You’re blessed when you stay on course, walking steadily on the road revealed by God. You’re blessed when you follow his directions, doing your best to find him. That’s right—you don’t go off on your own; you walk straight along the road He set. You, God, prescribed the right way to live; now you expect us to live it. Oh, that my steps might be steady, keeping to the course you set; Then I’d never have any regrets in comparing my life with your counsel. I thank you for speaking straight from your heart; I learn the pattern of your righteous ways. I’m going to do what you tell me to do; don’t ever walk off and leave me.
"How can a young person live a clean life? By carefully reading the map of your Word. I’m single-minded in pursuit of you; don’t let me miss the road signs you’ve posted. I’ve banked your promises in the vault of my heart so I won’t sin myself bankrupt. Be blessed, God; train me in your ways of wise living."
Psalm 119:1-12 (MSG)
The power of one degree.
One degree can change everything. Make the course adjustment before we find ourselves in a place we never intended to be.
